Chris Fischer and Amy Schumer call off 7-year marriage, Instagram announcement triggers online chatter.
Comedian and actor Amy Schumer and her husband, chef Chris Fischer, have announced their decision to end their marriage after more than seven years together. The announcement came on Friday, December 12, through Schumer’s Instagram, where she shared a photo of herself, Fischer, and their son Gene on the New York City subway.

In her post, Schumer wrote, “Blah blah blah, Chris and I have made the difficult decision to end our marriage after 7 years. We love each other very much and will continue to focus on raising our son. We would appreciate people respecting our privacy at this time. Blah blah blah, not because I dropped some lbs and thought I could bag a basket and not because he’s a hot James Beard award-winning chef who can still pull some hot tail. Amicable and all love and respect! Family forever.”

The message highlighted that the split was a mutual decision and emphasised the couple’s continued commitment to co-parenting their young son, Gene, who they welcomed in May 2019.

Amy Schumer faces social media backlash

The news of the divorce also triggered online backlash, with some users dragging Schumer’s recent 50-pound weight loss, despite her explaining it was necessary to manage and survive Cushing’s syndrome, a serious hormonal disorder.

One wrote, “Amy Schumer and husband split. Women always leave when they lose weight. The man stuck around when they were fat.” Another added, “Amy Schumer and Husband Chris Fischer Divorcing After Over 7 Years of Marriage: 'It's a Cohesive Split.' Wow! A whole 7 years. How does one split cohesively? That’s an oxymoron.”

Others shared mixed reactions, including, “Well, I guess I won’t watch the second season of her show at this point…” and “Amy Schumer, no longer a whale due to Ozempic, leaves husband of 7 years. Predictable.”

More about Amy Schumer and Chris Fischer’s relationship

Amy Schumer and Chris Fischer first became romantically linked in 2017 and married in February 2018. Over the years, their relationship remained largely private, though fans followed occasional updates shared on social media. Despite recent speculation about their marriage, a source told PEOPLE on November 13 that “They’re privately working through normal issues that couples in long-term marriages have. They are both committed to the relationship.”

In the weeks leading up to the split, Schumer addressed circulating rumours about her marriage and health. On December 1, she posted on Instagram, stating, “Whatever ends up happening with me and Chris has nothing to do with weight loss or autism. Fingers crossed we make it through. He's the best.”

This followed her earlier Instagram Stories post praising Hulu’s divorce-lawyer series All’s Fair, in which she added, “And Chris and I are still married,” signalling that no public drama had affected their private decisions.
